About Us

Barbara and Charles Rossotti created the Rossotti Family Foundation as a way to give back to their community.

The founders of the Rossotti Family Foundation, Barbara and Charles Rossotti, have lived in Washington, DC, and/or Maryland since the late 1960’s. Barbara practiced law for nearly 40 years, and has served on the governing boards of numerous non-profit organizations. For more than 25 years, Charles led a technology-based management consulting firm that he co-founded. In 2002, he completed a five year term as IRS Commissioner. He is currently an advisor with The Carlyle Group. He has also served on non-profit and corporate boards.

Barbara and Charles created the Rossotti Family Foundation as a way to continue their years of engagement with non-profit organizations that work to make this country a better and more equitable place to live.

Charles says, “I have long had an interest in education, especially as a way to increase opportunities for underserved youth. The need to do this is great and there are many ways to help fill the need.”

Barbara says, “My interest in access to justice for all started when I volunteered at a legal aid organization and continues to this day. Also important to me has been my interest in higher education, particularly to assure adequate funding for students and faculty. In addition, music, principally as expressed through the human voice, is one of my longstanding interests. There is an urgent need for support of performances and music education of our youth. These will be goals of our foundation.”

Barbara and Charles’s adult children, Allegra Nethery and Edward Rossotti, are also involved with the Foundation, thus carrying the impact into the next generation. Allegra lives in Chicago, IL, and Edward lives in Washington, DC, which are the two geographic areas where the Foundation concentrates its efforts.
